Changing My Life

I never realized that I wasn’t in control of my health until at 36 years old and 5′-10″ I weighed in at 230 lbs.  I was tired all the time, no matter what I was doing.  Any type of physical activity with the kids was a difficult task.  Dad was always out of breath!

On occasion I was able to lose a few pounds here and there, but would eventually gain those back and more.  Dieting for me was taking a toll, I was not eating the right foods, not eating enough times a day, was finding ways to cheat the system.  Bottom line, I was cutting corners.  I always figured that if you ate 1 or 2 times a day you were bound to lose weight.  Boy, I could not have been more wrong about that.

Enter Beachbody.  Like everyone else that is overweight, I was spending a lot of time on the couch and it was usually with a beer and a bag of chips.  One night I watched the infomercial for P90X and was interested but thought that it looked way too hard for me.  I had been athletic growing up, but it had been a long time since I looked or felt athletic.  I basically wrote it off and kept on keeping on.

Then one morning it all clicked for me.  I was getting ready for work and as I was sitting in the chair putting on my work boots, there I was, extremely uncomfortable from my gut and chest being in the way of doing something simple like tying a pair of boots.  That was the tipping point for me.  What kind of a Dad was I setting this type of example for my kids?  Am I going to be around to see my kids grow up if I continue down this path?  Disgust and fear are wonderful motivating factors.

I recalled seeing that P90X infomercial like it was yesterday so I decided to do some research.  There were a ton of awesome reviews about P90X online and the Beachbody website opened up an entire community to me that I never knew existed.  I was done ignoring my health.  After reviewing the program options, I settled on P90 (precursor to P90X) and felt that I had a strong chance to go from Couch to graduate without killing myself.  When I first started P90 I had it in my head that this was a 90 day solution and I would drop a few pounds and be better off for it.  Well, that is exactly what happened with the exception that it was not a 90 day solution it became a willing lifestyle change.  Since completing P90, I have gone on to complete 2 rounds of P90X and am currently doing the program Insanity.

Beachbody gives you the tools to make life style changes through exercise and nutritional values that will last a lifetime, not just the 4-6 weeks of crash dieting before going on vacation or attending a wedding.  Whether it be their nutritional guides that accompany their programs or their supplements such as Shakeology, they give you everything you need to be successful.  All that is required from you, is hard work, dedication and the desire to make a change in your life.

If you are in the same boat I was and you have the dedication and desire to make a lifestyle change, Beachbody can give you the tools to turn your life around.  I did and so can you.

Here are some pictures of my journey along the way, as well as my current photo at the completion of Insanity on the bottom right.  Up next RevAbs.
